What is Google Consent Mode V2?

Consent Mode allows you to inform Google of your user’s consent to cookies or application identifiers. In the event of refusal, the tags adjust their behaviour and respect users’ choices.

Consent Mode V2 interacts with our TCF-compatible Consent Management Platform (CMP) to obtain user consent (consent banner for cookies, for example). Consent Mode receives your users’ consent choices and dynamically adapts the behaviour of Analytics, Ads and third-party tags that create or read cookies.

When using Google Analytics, Consent Mode compensates for the loss of data from users who have refused cookies by modelling behaviour and conversions.

Activate Consent Mode V2 now with Commanders Act’s Consent Management Platform!

If you’re not already a customer, our CMP is certified by Google, and Consent Mode can be activated in just a few clicks!

Frequently asked questions about Google Consent Mode V2

Google Consent Mode V2 is an update to Google’s consent management mode that allows websites to adjust the behaviour of Google tags based on the consent status of users. It helps sites comply with privacy requirements while continuing to measure conversions and optimise advertising campaigns.

When a user visits a website, Google Consent Mode V2 determines whether the user has given consent for tracking. If consent is granted, Google tags operate normally. If consent is not granted, the tags adjust their behaviour to limit data collection while using anonymised signals to optimise campaigns and measure conversions in aggregate.

Benefits include improved compliance with privacy regulations such as the GDPR, the ability to measure conversions in aggregate even without cookie consent, and ongoing optimisation of advertising campaigns with anonymised data.
